Merry Christmas to ME!

Joe and I had our own Christmas celebration this weekend since we usually have our own quiet gift exchange before we go home to family madness. Joe always tries to outdo me in the present department with some last minute surprise, and I was pretty determined this year to get him some great stuff.

Well, he trumped everything again this year by bringing out a brand-new Cintiq monitor. I almost cried I was so happy, and also mad that he spent so much. But mostly happy. Sketching on it is incredible. I haven't had much time to do any really detailed drawings, but this is the first thing I drew on it, a quick sketch of holiday-Sierra.

Merry Christmas!

Sierra dressed up for drawergeeks this week, since she's an elf. I'm getting excited about going home for Christmas and seeing my family again!

Star belly (?)

The topic for drawergeeks this week was star belly....completely open to interpretation. I couldn't think of anything super-creative for it, so I made a girl with a star on her belly. GENIUS!!!!!

I actually have a star tattooed on my hip. I lived with 3 other girls in an apartment in college, and we not only got along, but still we're best of friends. We met up a few years ago for a reunion weekend, and got star tattoos to mark the occasion. It's in white ink, which I got partially because I thought the subtlety of a white tattoo was cool and also because I wussed out at the last minute and wasn't sure I wanted a tattoo. Now I really love it and i want it filled in with a darker ink so it shows up better.

Cleo in color

Did a quick and ugly coloring job on this in photoshop today....I cropped it because the rest of it was bothering me. I must be out of practice!

More quick sketches

Here's another sketch I did yesterday at work of a tall skinny girl. It's not a great drawing by any means, but I kind of like the shapes I got in this.

I hope to get some colored drawings up this week while I have some time off.

Vacation time!

This month has been crazy. I haven't been drawing or painting anything. BUT....I have the whole week of Thanksgiving off! I'll be giving thanks for that!

In celebration (and because I was distractedly sketching at work today while thinking of vacation) here's a fast doodle that I did on some note paper. A few people came by and commented that they liked it, so I'll post it.

Cleo

Yikes, it's been a long time since I posted anything. Work has exploded in craziness once again and we've had visitors. This was a drawing of Cleopatra that I was supposed to do for drawergeeks about a month ago and never painted. Here's the rough drawing, hopefully I'll get the colored version up sometime this week. Joe said that he really liked the roughness of this scan so I didn't clean it up at all for this post. ;)

sketches

Stupid wacom tablet isn't working again. I think it's high time for a new one.

Here's another quick sketch I did between playblasts at work. I think she came out looking a bit like Moongirl.

Clowns...but not scary clowns

I finally got around to doing a drawergeeks drawing for this week. The subject was clowns, but I didn't want to draw a traditional clown cause they're kinda....wierd. I always liked Harley Quinn from the batman series, so I decided to draw her instead. It helped that work was pretty slow today, so that I could do a few!

Shy Sierra

I was going to color something tonight, but my wacom tablet pooped out again. And I'm feeling sick and lazy. And I'm feeling like making up excuses for not doing anything worth posting. So here's a quick pen drawing I did at work that a co-worker said was cute. Sierra looks hopeful, yet shy in this drawing and I kinda like that.

That's all the creativity I have in me today.

I've been busy...

August was "hey everyone, come and visit us in Oregon!" month. So we had a block of guests for about 2 and a half weeks. I haven't found time to color anything. Hopefully I can get some of that done this week. Until then, here's a silly anime-ish looking drawing that I did at work.

Another Mermaid?

I drew this a few days ago and still haven't gotten around to coloring it yet. Then, I clicked on over to the lovely and talented Sarah Mensinga's page and noticed she'd posted a mermaid recently too! Coincidence?!??!? Um....I'd have to say yeah, probably.

In other silliness....

Ha ha....this is what I'd look like as a Simpson's character!

Wild-life

We came home tonight and Jingle was standing up at the screen door by the back porch so we decided to let her out for a bit. Joe noticed that she was just sitting at the edge of the porch with a poofy tail and big eyes, so we took at look outside to see what she was looking at.

What the....hey, there's a deer in our yard!

He was right below the porch, chomping away on the clover down there. As soon as we started sneaking out to take pictures, he decided to mosey on to the back of the yard to destroy our blueberry bushes instead.

Ginny

Went to see the new Harry Potter movie this past weekend. It was pretty good, probably my favorite so far.

I'm not a huge Harry Potter fan...I don't own any of the books or the movies, and whatever I read (or listened to books on tape) was borrowed from friends. But I think the stories are engaging and the characters are likable. My favorite character in the books is Ginny Weasley. She seems to mostly play a bit part in most of the movies, but I like that in this latest one they show her getting more and more powerful as a wizard as her character in the book does. That and I think the girl who plays Ginny in the movies is as cute as a button.

Seals!

This Sunday we went to the Oregon coast for the day. When it's pretty warm here it's at least 15 degrees cooler on the coast, and since we've been getting warmer than normal temperatures we decided to go where the water is icy cold and the cheese is always free for the sampling. We usually hit Cape Lookout near delicious Tillamook, so that we can go to the dairy factory and get ice cream afterwards.

Of course we never remember our camera when we go out and do fun stuff, but I never missed it more than yesterday. Lo and behold, right by the beach was a playful little seal swimming around in the ocean! It was coming pretty close to the shore to look at what all the people were doing. I think it was confused as to why we weren't joining him for a swim. (No really, that water was COLD.) I think I threw an excited girly squealing fit for a while.

More random faces

Just a quick lil' something I drew today, because I couldn't concentrate at work. My summer vacation has officially started! Yippeeee!

Bunnies in love

The next drawergeeks assignment is rabbits....that's really open to some wild interpretation. So while the network was down today at work, I drew this silly samurai bunny and his secret bunny love. I guess it's a little like Usagi Yojimbo.

one more Cindy

here's a fast sketch i did the other week while i was coming up with ideas for the Cinderella week on drawergeeks. i still like how this one came out...very un-disney-esque....if that's a word. i might try to clean it up and color sometime when my wacom tablet decides to cooperate with me.

i've been slacking on the drawing-front lately. i blame overtime and house work. owning a home takes a lot more work than i thought it would! next week i'm off on vacation, and that's going to consist of a lot of painting, i think. i'll try to do some digital painting as well!

Ratatouille

I was lucky enough to get tickets to a sneak preview of Pixar's new movie "Ratatouille" this past weekend. I got to see it 2 weeks before it even opened! I was pretty much in love with this sweet little movie from beginning to end. The character designs were completely appealing, the story was engaging, the art was beautiful. I can't even begin to tell you how mind-bogglingly good the animation was...Pixar animators are in a league of their own. If I ever live up to the talent that goes into whatever they considered to be the WORST shot on that film, I would die believing I was a truly talented animator. And the rat, Remy, was so darn cute I couldn't stand it. I want a pet rat now! I'm sure Jingle would love that too.

Cinderella, Cinderella....

For this week's drawergeeks! I figured if I didn't do these early I would end up not getting them done, as usual. Cinderella was my FAVORITE movie when I was a kid, so I really wanted to do something super-pretty for this week. I also didn't really want to copy the idea of the Disney version, even though the first one ended up pretty close to it.

Parable...done!

I officially handed in my short comic for Parable last night. I feel like it could have looked better, but I did the best I could considering the big move and all. It was a really fun project to work on and the finished book is going to look great! Here's the 'final' designs for the main characters of the girl and bird...and even the cat thrown in there. (I put the 'final' in quotes because I rushed along and she kinda got all off model in most of the panels anyway. Oops!)

Roses in the Rose City!

Portland is known as the Rose City. The weather conditions are great for growing roses, and they grow everywhere! There's even an amazing rose garden in Washington Park that is definitely worth checking out if you're ever in the area.

Well, we were really excited to find all kinds of different roses growing on our new property! Thank you, previous owners, for planting all kinds of rosy goodness! So far we have some pink ones, gorgeous orange ones, and HUGE red ones that smell really nice. There's also a few miniature white ones in the back just popping out. We cut one of the red ones and brought it indoors so we could enjoy the smell. :)

hey, i drawed something!

Uh...yeah....I haven't posted anything in a long time. But now we're finally getting settled into our new place, my work hours are slowing down a bit, the comic book is pretty much done, so I feel much less stressed! Here's some silly elf-heads I drew the other day in celebration. Just some minor secondary characters from my story that have never been fully designed.

Princess Leia

These are for this week's Drawergeeks submission. I couldn't pass up such a fun subject!

hiking!

haven't posted in a while...between work and comics and house-closing stuff we've been pretty busy. but we DID find time this weekend to take an awesome hike up at cape lookout. it was a gorgeous 50 degree day and the waves coming into the coast were amazing. i won the prize at the end of the day for the muddiest....it had rained a lot the night before and the trail was pretty muddy. i slipped and fell within the first mile. but then, i'm a big klutz.

color version...

Here's the color concept of the girl...gonna keep it simple. i'm a little panicked about having to do a whole comic in a month, even if it's only going to be about 6-8 pages. especially since we just bought our first house and are going to be moving soon. so i've been coming home and drawing madly every night! sooooo....tired....

Parable!

i'm going to have a short comic published in the upcoming anthology "Parable", provided that i can actually finish it by may first! i'm very excited about this, as there are a ton of incredibly talented people contributing to it.....and to be counted as good enough to even submit work with them is a huge honor! here are some sketches i did for the main characters this morning. a little girl living on the streets and her friend, a little sparrow.

Sandman

The next drawergeeks subject. Getting ready for the new Spiderman movie! I sketched this early...let's see if I actually find time to color it.

weekend in Seattle

spent last weekend in Seattle, where strange men toss fish at each other and yell silly things!

we went up to visit a bunch of friends that we used to work with in Texas, and it was a blast! we went downtown to the market and saw the fish-tossers, had a BBQ at the Burke's place, and finished off Saturday night with a drunken karaoke contest. i will only get up and sing in front of people if I've had a few drinks...or if my sister asks me to do it for her wedding. those are the only times. here's a sketch of me making a fool of myself.

i think there's some incriminating video of me singing out there somewhere too. shameful what wine can do to a person.

Robo friends

a couple of quick, silly sketches i did today for drawergeeks. robots are fun! i think the square guy used to be a refridgerator or a dishwasher or something.
